Local Birdingpal Contacts

Local Birdwatchers

Using the Birdingpal resources you must agree to the following: If you contact a local Birdingpal and make arrangement to go birding, you should note it is common courtesy to make sure you show up for the appointment. If for any reason you are unable to do this, the least you must do is contacting the local Pal right away.
Please note that most Birdingpals are serious birdwatchers. It is a privilege to contact them, and your message should reflect it. A local Pal does not get paid, but should he/she offer to take you out birding, using their own vehicle, it would be courteous to pay for the fuel. A lunch and/or a small gift would also be appropriate, something as simple as a souvenir of your country, or a pin from your local birding club.

I have lived in southern Utah for two years, previously from Pittsburgh, PA.

I have gotten quite familiar with the local birds by sight and sound, and have found reliable locations for many of the region's specialties. I go birding just about every day in some of the prettiest places imaginable, and I'd love to show any of the countless tourists that come through this area some of the local birds.

J Limberty Kanab Weekend English
I am a budding birder, self-taught, and have birded on my own throughout a handful of states in the US. I'm no expert, but my love of birds and birding take me outdoors quite a bit to enjoy our avian friends while continuously adding to my life list. Currently I am only available for birding on Wednesday and Thursdays.

I'm located right between the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and Antelope Island. I'm a 37 year old male and I bird almost daily. I work full time and although weekends are better, I don't mind burning a vacation day here and there. I will scout areas prior to birding to make your visit more fruitful.
T Abbott Ogden Anytime English
Ogden is nestled between the Great Salt Lake and the Wasatch Mountains making for a great diversity of birds within a reasonably close area.

I have been birding about 12 years. I live in a suburb of Salt Lake City. I am semi-retired and have a somewhat flexible schedule. I love birding although I don’t get out as much as I used to.
I have birded in Utah, California, SE Arizona, Texas, Florida, New York, Indianapolis, Hawaii, and a few places in Europe and the Caribbean.

I enjoy meeting new people and like to return the favors granted me when birding in other communities.

Bill Fenimore Salt Lake City Anytime English, Spanish
I have a birding lease on Deseret Ranch the largest ranch in Utah (over 250,000 acres). Typically 100-135 bird species will be seen in a day on Deseret Ranch.

Deseret Ranch is an Audubon Important Bird Area (IBA). Great Salt Lake, Bear River National Wildlife Refuge and Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area are all located in the same area. This is the largest body of water west of the Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean.

Great Salt Lake is a part of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve network.

The American Birding Association awarded me the Ludlow Griscom Award in 2008 and the Roger Tory Peterson Natural History Institute Awarded me the Educational Achievement Award in 2008.

Testimonial

I had a very rewarding birding trip recently, in the hills and valleys outside Salt Lake City, Utah. The reason for my successful trip was local Birdingpal Billy Fenimore, my guide for the day. He was the perfect guide, with a thorough knowledge of key sites and of the birds to be found. He took my companion and me to at least a half dozen locations. Our first stop was at the summit of Powder Mountain where, despite bitter winds, we had excellent views of Mountain Chickadee and Gray-Crowned and Black Rosy-Finch, all lifers for me. Gems in Eden Valley included Evening Grosbeak, Pine Siskin, Steller’s Jay and Golden Eagle. Near Croydon we stopped by a creek and and spent time with a most obliging American Dipper, who bobbed in and out of the water and sang his heart out. I will never forget that!

Billy is a naturalist by birth, instinct and training. He has a friendly, accommodating nature and a love of his surroundings that is infectious. I look forward to returning to this beautiful area. Next time I hope to spend time with the Fenimores at Deseret Ranch. That would be another wonderful birding trip!
