Local Birdwatchers
Please note that most Birdingpals are serious birdwatchers. It is a privilege to contact them, and your message should reflect it. A local Pal does not get paid, but should he/she offer to take you out birding, using their own vehicle, it would be courteous to pay for the fuel. A lunch and/or a small gift would also be appropriate, something as simple as a souvenir of your country, or a pin from your local birding club.

The Hainan Peacock Pheasant is an endangered taxon found only on Hainan Island of China. Due to lack of detailed taxonomic studies, whether it is a subspecies of the Grey Peacock Pheasant (Polyplectron bicalcaratum katsumatae) or a full species (Polyplectron katsumatae) remained unclear. Because the population density of the Hainan Peacock Pheasant is very low in its tropical forest on the island and the wild population is declining, it is now
becoming severely endangered and should be ranked as the rarest species in the Order Galliformes in China.

I am a Canadian (28 years old) but have lived in Dalian, Liaoning Province, China for the past five years and in that time have put together a picture guide to the Birds of Dalian that will soon be available in English and Chinese. The book is 180 pages and covers 180 of the most common birds to the area. I live in Jinshitan National Holiday Resort which is a nice area for birdind especially during migration. I have been on the main city TV channel as well as in three newspapers here in Dalian about the birds of the area. I have also taken part in Black-faced Spoonbill counts sponsored by the WWF. I charge $20/hour for any size group but it is better if interested people just contact me and customize their own schedule and locations. There is a major airport about 1 hour away. I am extremely passionate about showing people birds and raising awareness. I can also do guiding into the surrounding villages for a look at 'old China' culture as well.
My photos can be found in flickr.com if you search for Jinshitan birds. My name there is thbeeke.
